The difference between a bathroom that lasts twenty years and one that fails in five is entirely in the layer nobody sees. Pan slope, waterproof membrane, backer board, and the detail where the membrane meets the drain: those decide it, and they are all covered up on the day the tile goes down.
JSC builds shower assemblies as a system rather than as a surface. On older Hanford and Selma homes that usually also means replacing supply lines and correcting a vent that was never right, because a bathroom is where a house's oldest plumbing tends to be.
Accessibility work is a real part of this in the valley, where a lot of homeowners are remodelling to stay in a house rather than to leave it. Curbless entries, blocking set for grab bars, and door widths that take a walker are all decisions made at framing, not afterwards.
