Concrete in this part of the valley is a soils job. Ground conditions vary considerably across Kings, Tulare and Fresno counties, and a slab poured on an unprepared or expansive base will crack no matter how good the mix was.
Base preparation, thickness, reinforcement and control joint spacing are what determine whether a driveway is still sound in fifteen years. They are also the four things easiest to quietly reduce in order to win a bid on price.
JSC pours to a specified thickness with the base compacted and the joints laid out deliberately, and quotes it that way so it can be compared honestly against a cheaper number.
